I woke up howling,
longing for the village of your breath,
for the voice that separates the Living
from those simply
not yet Dead.
I woke up howling,
with a drive-in-theatre drama
not yet unfolded behind my eyes,
like a shallow lake pining for snowmelt
kneeling in prayer not to dry.
I woke up howling,
hoping you'd somehow hear it amplified,
streaming through the valleys
of long distance and lost time.
